The Library provides resources and services to staff of the Canberra Hospital and Health Services, and all ACT Health Directorate staff located off the Canberra Hospital site.

All ACT Health Directorate staff must register with the Library to borrow books or access library resources.

When you are registered, we will give you a barcode and password. You may borrow using the Self-Checkout System at any time or at the Circulation Desk during business hours.

Borrow

Items from the main Library collection including books, DVDs, and reports as well as iPads:

  • may be borrowed for a period of two weeks, with TWO renewals.
  • Staff may borrow up to five (5) items at any given time.
  • Students are able to borrow up to three (3) items at a time.
  • Restricted loans (Special Reserve) - available from the Circulation Desk (Rules for using Special Reserve items apply)
  • Not for Loan: Reference Collection, Historical Collection and Journals
  • Fines apply for overdue items, suspension may occur.

Borrowing for off campus staff

Request books by email or phone and we will send the items to you in the "flexible borrowing" pouch which you should keep for returning the items.


Renew your loan

Loaned items can be renewed twice. Phone: 6244 3394 Monday to Friday, excluding Public Holidays, between 8:30am - 5:00pm for assistance Email: tch.library@act.gov.au Login to your "My Library Account" and renew your loaned items, or contact the Library. You cannot renew overdue items through the self-checkout system.

Return your loan

  • Into the Return box located within the library or at the Circulation Desk
  • iPad must be returned at the Circulation Desk
  • Use the Internal mail delivery for off campus borrowers. Items must be returned in the "flexible borrowing" pouch


Reserve a book

  • Reserve at the Circulation Desk
  • Reserve via Library OPAC
  • Click on My Library Account and sign in
  • Click on "New Search"
  • Search for item and click on the title
  • Request Options > click on "Request"
  • Enter details of title you requested
  • Click on "Request"


Special Reserves

  • Restricted loan items from the Special Reserve Collection are issued for use within the library during business hours
  • An I.D. card must be deposited with the loans staff
  • Special Reserve items are issued for overnight loan between 4.00-5.00 pm and must be back by 9.00 am next business day
  • Fines will accrue at the rate of $0.50 per hour


Fines

The Library imposes fines for overdue items. Avoid fines by returning or renewing books on or before the due date. Check your e-mail regularly for overdue or courtesy notices.

Overdue Fines: accrue at

  • $0.50 per item per day for normal loans (books and DVDs)
  • $0.50 per hour for Special Reserve items
  • $5.00 per day for iPads.
  • Borrowers with fines of $5 or more are blocked from borrowing. This block will remain until the full amount is settled.

Replacement Cost

  • Borrowers of items are responsible for any loss, damage or disfigurement, and will be required to pay the full cost of replacing these items.
  • Any item 28 days overdue is automatically deemed "Lost" and the library will charge a replacement fee.

Fine Payments

You may pay fines in person at the library circulation desk, by cash or cheque made to "Health Directorate Libraryā€¯.

Suspension/Block

  • Patrons will be blocked from borrowing, renewing or requesting when they have:
  • Fines of $5 or more
  • Borrowed the maximum number of items allowed, 5 books for staff and 3 for students
  • An expired library record
